ADVANTAGES OF FRICTION

Friction plays a vital role in our daily life. Without friction we are handicap.

1. It is becomes difficult to walk on a slippery road due to low friction. When we move on ice, it becomes difficult to walk due to low friction of ice.

2. We can not fix nail in the wood or wall if there is no friction. It is friction which holds the nail.

3. A horse can not pull a cart unless friction furnishes him a secure Foothold.

DISADVANTAGES OF FRICTION

Friction is a force which occurs due to the molecular bonds formed between the two or more molecules. Friction is harmful in many ways like :-

It causes a massive loss of electrical energy. If we could create a super conductor and friction between the molecules is zero (means zero internal resistance) we could achieve an ultimate way of transferring electrical energy with 0% of heat losses.

In daily life the energy losses due to wearing & tearing of car tyres can be reduced if friction could be reduced.

Much better performing supercomputers could be created if friction is reduced. Lesser energy losses will be there.

In one way I would say that friction is an necessary evil .
