Answer:

Advantages:

MCB has several advantages over the Fuse:

1. MCB is more sensitive to current than Fuse

It detects any abnormality in the current flow and automatically switches off the electrical circuit.

2. In case of MCB, the faulty zone of electrical circuit can be easily identified

Faulty circuit trips to the Off position. On the other hand, in case of a Fuse, the complete fuse wire needs to be checked by opening the fuse grip for confirming the faulty zone.

3. With MCB, it is very simple to resume the supply

You just need to push the knob of MCB back to the On position. But in case of a fuse, the entire fuse wire needs to be replaced.

4. Handling MCB is electrically safer than handling a Fuse. In case of MCB

In case of an MCB, the user is not exposed to live electrical parts; but while replacing the Fuse, there is a fair chance that you may come in contact with a live wire / current carrying conductor.

5. MCB is reusable and hence has less maintenance and replacement cost

Whereas a fuse needs to be replaced whenever it goes faulty.

MCB and Fuses

  • The fuses and the MCB are the protection devices that are used to protect the electrical equipment from damages that are caused due to short circuits.
  • The MCB is more current-sensitive than the fuse. It detects any abnormalities in the current flow and shuts down the electrical circuit automatically.
  • The fault zone of the electrical circuit can be easily determined in the case of an MCB.
  • A fuse operates on the thermal properties of materials that transmit electric currents.
  • Fuses operate more quickly than miniature circuit breakers.
  • Miniature circuit breakers have a core of electromagnet with plungers for protection from the short circuit and from overload protection they used a bimetallic strip.
