Whenever an element or a compound reacts with oxygen some reaction takes place which changes the oxidation state of the element or of that compound.

• In reaction with oxygen, it takes electrons from that element.
• It himself get converted into O(-2)
• These electrons come from the element or molecule or the compound that is being exposed to oxygen.
• After taking the electrons from that material the oxidation state of the element will also get changed.
