I love classical music because it has such depth and passion and great beauty. In the case of Bach, there is mathematical precision as well. Look at the music of Mozart. Piano concerto #1 has lyrical beauty, and it was used in the movie Elvira Madigan. Much of The Magic Flute is rollicking fun, especially Papageno’s arias, but there is magnificence in O Isis and Osiris, and the Queen of the Night’s aria is one of the great coloratura arias. Music that comes from the soul and takes risks. I'm not interested in music that feels like it's been manufactured, thought about long and hard and processed within an inch of its life.
My preference is live music performed by talented musicians who aren't just trying to replicate what they hear on a record. I love the sounds of people pushing each other to new musical destinations and jamming together in ways that expand the boundaries of where they were all prepared to go. Great improvisers are great listeners and hearing people feed off each other in a live setting is especially thrilling.
