Answer:

Two Kinds" is a short story from the book "The Joy Luck Club" written by Amy Tan. This story describes the childhood of the main character Jing-mai Woo, as well as the negative effects that her mother's high expectations have had. The story reflects real events from the writer's life, whose mother also left China leaving her family and young children behind. The story is about great expectations that mother and daughter have in Amrica. On the one hand, Jing Mei wants to become a singer and dancer and has a role model in the Shirley Temple. In doing so, her expectations are very high. On the other hand, her mother builds her great expectations through her daughter. Namely, her mother is convinced that Jing is a genius and wants to dissuade her from becoming the singer. Instead, she uselessly points to other gifted children from the magazine. Her mother against the will of Jing mei decides to go to the piano lessons, with a neighbor who is deaf and has poor eyesight. All this leads to conflict. It allows her to not learn and act as she wants. After an unsuccessful attempt to learn piano playing, she follows the talent show ensues and her mother signs her up out of pride towards her friend Lindo Jong, whose daughter is a prodigy chess player. Jing Mei terribly plays one song in the hope of embarrassing her mother in front of the audience. The mother does not react and asks how the piano classes are progressing. The mother realizes that the daughter wants to give up and compels her to go, and of that because her daughter is angry, declares that, she wished she was not even born, and that she would love to be dead. This predisposes the culmination of discord and conflict due to the unrealistic expectation of the mother.
