The most notable festival here is the Bohag Bihu, which is the beginning of the Assamese New Year and falls in mid-April. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and to encourage the traditional culture of Assam.
The most important and colourful of the three Bihu festival is the Spring festival “Bohag Bihu” or Rangali Bihu celebrated in the middle of April. Songs sung in Bihu are woven around themes of love and often carry erotic overtones.
The third day is set apart for religious services. Games and sports, special Bihu songs and dances, fairs, etc., are a part of the Bihu celebrations.
