The four states of UP, MP, Bihar and Haryana lie in the fertile stretch of the Ganges plain and account for a major share of agricultural production. Analysing the information about the production of the three crops - wheat, rice and maize, we find that UP has the highest amount of wheat production at 40,000 tonnes. This is followed by Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, and then Bihar.
As far as the production of rice is concerned, Haryana tops the list at 40,000 tonnes. This is followed by UP, MP and Bihar. Maize production is also tremendous, with Haryana producing the highest quantity at 35,000 tonnes, followed by UP, Bihar and MP.
Out of these states, Bihar has the least total production. This could be because of the small territorial area of the state and poverty among farmers, who can not create enough marketable surplus like Haryana.
