Tourism Industry
Tourism and the Hospitality Industry are the most promising
and fast flourishing industries of the future world. The famous south Indian
actor, Chiranjeevi feels Tourism in India has the potential to promote faster, sustainable
and more inclusive growth. It could be used as a powerful antidote to tackle
poverty. Tourists generate lots of economic activities. There are many benefits
involved in travel and tourism.
Firstly, historic
buildings help create vibrant, cultural downtowns that engender tourism, art,
festivals, and other activities which in turn draw investment, revenue, and
economic growth. The second benefit of travelling and tourism is the economic
and public benefits that act as powerful tools in sustaining local economy,
creating jobs, and even generating capital.
However, there is the negative side of tourism also which
demands our attention more. this boom in the tourism has adversely affected the
environment! Owning to poor waste management unplanned and reckless
construction along with the increasing pressure of catering to the needs of the
tourist , beautiful beaches, coral reefs, forests, sanctuaries,
waterways, lakes, lagoons, hills, mountains are being polluted. These spots of
pure natural beauty are also habitats for various species of flora and fauna.
These species are being adversely affected due to the construction,
development, and other tourism related activities. For instance, in Philippines
and Maldives, dynamiting and mining of corals for resort building materials has
damaged fragile coral reefs and depleted fisheries that sustain local people.
In Nepal, the rapid growth of the trekking industry has increased
pollution in Kathmandu and caused dangerous crowding and destruction of trails.
Logging for hotel building materials and cooking fires has led to
deforestation, flooding and landslides as far away as Bangladesh. The
condition of popular hill stations in India is also the same.
Undoubtedly, tourism is a wholesome and beneficial industry, but it needs to be monitored and regulated. We cannot let it run berserk at the cost of our environment. The concept of eco-tourism must be implemented and adopted with finality. Strict tourism laws must be implemented and enacted for the preservation of pristine places of nature. Any party involved in tourism and hospitality industry fiddling with environment must be strictly dealt with. If we have the right to enjoy the pleasures of nature, we also have the duty to preserve them.

Tourism is one of the most popular industries in India. However every coin has two sides and both the sides hold importance while discussing its entity. On the outer level, tourism might seem beneficial for the people, the nature, the history and the nation’s name, fame and wealth as a whole. However, on further consideration it can be proved that it has its own share of disadvantages as well.
Firstly, on financial grounds, India depends a lot on the travel expenditures incurred by foreigners, as a source of taxation and as a source of income for the enterprises. Therefore, the development of tourism is often a strategy to encourage a particular region for the purpose of increasing commerce through exporting goods and services. It is popular in India because this industry does not require a lot of literacy and also it yields maximum profits with less investment.
It also pros ides direct employment fur the people associated w nth occupations in bars and hotels. Thanks to it the average standard of living of people increases well and at the same time unemployment is on the decrease.
However, tourists cause environmental damage through forest fires, destruction of sand dunes and pollution. This, in turn, discourages tourism as increased pollution disturbs local residents and also it may discourage tourists from further entering the country. The popularity in the industry also gets affected when people cause pollution through littering in the snow peaks of Himalayas as well as in the wide coastline which surrounds l /3″$ of the entire country.
Henceforth tourism undermines culture by commercializing it and this is often connected with increasing liner, graffiti vandalism and noise by tourists who do not always respect traditional cultures, which is sad but true.
Thus it can be noticed that tourism has two sides- the profitable, promotional aspect as well as the disadvantageous antageous affects on our nation.
