It forms magnesium oxide.

When Mg burns in oxygen, the following reaction takes place:-
2Mg(2 molecules of magnesium) +O2(1 oxygen atom) = 2MgO(2 molecules of magnesium oxide)
Thus a white substance 2Mgo is formed.
The flame is dazzling(bright) and white in colour.
