Have you ever wanted to know about the life of Louisiana Governor, John Bel Edwards? In this Biographical essay, you will be informed about John Bel Edwards' early life, political life, and his legacy in Louisiana.

As a boy, John Bel Edwards was raised in a very economically and politically well-established 10 person family in Amite, Louisiana. His birthmother was Dora Jean Née Miller, and his father was none other than Tangiphoa parish Sheriff Frank M. Edwards Jr. As the seventh of eight son, he spent majority of his childhood fishing and hunting. He graduated from Amite High School & went to Louisiana State University (or LSU) for a degree in law.

Once Edwards graduated from LSU, he decided to open a civil law practice in his hometown. In 2008, he was elected into the House of Representatives, in which he represented the people of Amite, Greensburg, Kentwood, and Hammond for eight years before he ran as governor and was elected in 2015, Once January 11th, 2016 came around, the governor was sworn in to office as the 56th Governor of Louisiana.

In the governor's first official action, he signed an executive order to expand Medicaid coverage to 430,000 of the state’s working poor. The decision to expand Medicaid cut Louisiana’s uninsured rate from 24 percent to just a mere 10 percent, saving lives and improving the quality of life for citizens across the state. Once taking upon the Oath of Office, gov. Edwards faced the largest deficit in the history of Louisiana, following years of budget mismanagement, which included cuts to much higher education, vital state resources, etc. The governor worked hard to stop this major deficit with a bicameral and bipartisan group of lawmakers. Today, the higher education funding has been restored, the state’s gross domestic product is the highest it’s ever been and Louisiana’s budget is balanced and stable.

The governor of Louisiana has always kept his word when he said that he would put Louisiana first. Hundreds of thousands of people are now insured, Louisiana's budget is more stable than ever, and the state is now open for business.
