Viswanathan Anand (born 11 December 1969) is an Indian chess grandmaster and a former world chess champion. He became the first grandmaster from India in 1988, and is one of the few players to have surpassed an Elo rating of 2800, a feat he first achieved in 2006.[2]

Viswanathan Anand was born on December 11, 1969, in Tamil Nadu. He is an Indian chess
player who won the title of World Chess Champion from 2007-2013. He became the first
National Chess Champion at the age of 16. He is the first Indian to win the World Junior
Championship in 1987 and became the first Grandmaster from India in 1988. He is fond of
listening to music, swimming and reading. He is lovingly called as Vishy, or the ‘Tiger of
Madras’. He was awarded the Padma Shri at the young age of 18 years. Besides, he has also
bagged the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, the Padma Vibhushan and the Arjuna Award.
