I am myself a Bhonslay and enjoyed this classic, because it gave a good picture of my great ancestor, written by an Englishman who admired Shivaji and gave us a very favourable reading of his character, simplicity and intelligent tactics that won him the only empire of Hindus during India's long occupation by the Moghuls. Easy reading and fills one in on the history of the time (often written more about Aurangzeb than about the rest of India.
