Location and extent: Northern plains also known as the Indo-Gangetic Plains are located to the south of Himalayas. These plains are formed by the slits that are deposited there by the rivers that flow in the Himalayas.

The Northern Plain extends from the south of Kashmir to the northern parts of Vindhyas. States like Gujarat, Punjab, Bihar, U.P, and Haryana lies in the Northern Plains.

Major rivers in the Northern plains are the Sutlej River, Ganga and Brahmaputra River and their tributaries.
