Course Structure

What are the reasons behind the various customs that we follow? The significance of various customs which transforms every ordinary chore into a lofty offering, seemingly routine activities like ringing a bell or breaking a coconut in a temple are all well explained in the books titled Living Vedic Traditions. We celebrate diversity, we celebrate plurality, we wait for an occasion to express our joy through some festival or the other. These are established practices that have been embedded into our lives not just for our wellbeing but also for the well being of the whole world.

Course Overview

Basic

The Vedas are believed to have been communicated to our ancient Rishis or seers during their metaphysical trance like state. The Vedas impacted every aspect of man’s life, the religion followed by the people also came to be known as Vedic Religion or Vaidika Dharma. The lifestyle followed came to be called as Vedic Lifestyle.

Vedic Lifestyle would thus include the celebration of festivals, their significance and procedures to be followed. Why do Hindus worship a plant, a tree, an animal or the elements? Isavasyam idam sarvam is an ancient dictum which means god is all pervading. So every Hindu is encouraged to see the presence of god in all beings. What a wonderful world it would be if we were to follow this injunction! But that is what our Scriptures instruct us to do. There is a reason behind every custom that we follow, it is definitely not an act of blind faith. The place of worship for Hindus is called a temple. How are these temples built? There is an exclusive branch of Science that deals with the art of constructing temples. You will learn about these and much more in this book which also has a few stories from the Panchatantra.
