The first battle of Panipat, 1526, when Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodi, laid the foundation of the Mughal Empire. The battle of Sirhind , 1555 led to the re-establishment of the Mughal Empire which was to last effectively for 200 years and notionally for 300 years. Another battle for India was fought at Sirhind in 1648
