¤¤¤ The CAMBIUM RING formed by joining of fascicular and interfasciculur CAMBIUM, is called VASCULAR CAMBIUM. It is regarded as lateral meristem. It is composed of two parts of cells -- the fusiform initials and the ray initials. The fusiform initails are vertically elongated cells that produce XYLEM and PHLOEM elements of longitudinal system. The Ray Initials are isodermatric and produce parenchymatous rays in secondary XYLEM and PHLOEM. The VASCULAR CAMBIUM always remain single layered.
¤¤¤ The Cells of CAMBIUM always remain a continuous state of division. They mostly divide by a periclinal divisions. Out of the two cells produced from a single cell of CAMBIUM, one differentiated into secondary tissue and other remains cambial cells. In this way the CAMBIAL cells, by its repeated divisions, add new cells either towards centre or towards periphery and the CAMBIUM still remains single layered .
