Answer:

Chromatography is a laboratory technique for the separation of a mixture. The mixture is dissolved in a fluid (gas, solvent, water, ...) called the mobile phase, which carries it through a system (a column, a capillary tube, a plate, or a sheet) on which is fixed a material called the stationary phase.

Write a brief note on chromatography

 \underline{ \underline{ \sf{ \maltese \: Answer }}} :

Chromatography :- It is an important technique extensively used to separate mixtures into their components, purify compounds and also to test the purity of compounds.

Chromatography involves the three steps

a) Adsorption and retention of a mixture of substances on the stationary phase.

b) Recovery of the separated substances by a continuous flow of the mobile phase (known as elution).

c) Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the eluted substances

It is classified into three types based on the physical states of stationary phase and mobile phase.
