1. The Peninsular plateau is a tableland composed of the old crystalline, igneous and metamorphic rocks.

2. It was formed due to the breaking and drifting of the Gondwana land and thus, making it a part of the oldest landmass.

3. The plateau has broad and shallow valleys and rounded hills.

4. This plateau consists of two broad divisions, namely, the Central Highlands and the Deccan Plateau.

5. The part of the Peninsular plateau lying to the north of the Narmada river covering a major area of the Malwa plateau is known as the Central Highlands.

6. The peninsular plateau is a tableland. It is composed of the oldest rocks because it was formed from the drifted part of the Gondwana land.

7. The plateau can be broadly divided into two regions, viz. the Central Highlands and the Deccan Plateau.

The Peninsular block is formed by a great complex of very ancient gneisses and granites. It mostly consists of relicts and residual mountains like the Aravalli hills, the Nalamalla hills, the Javadi hills, etc. .
