• Sri Lanka is an island country in the Indian Ocean.
• It is about 80km South-East of the southern tip of India.
• Bonds of traditions and culture bring the two countries close to each other.
• Emperor Ashoka's son Mahendra and daughter Sangha Mitra went to Sri Lanka as Buddhist missionaries.
• India has been following a policy of peace, friendliness and cooperation towards Sri Lanka. Both the countries have been cooperating with each other in cultural and economic spheres.
