In the above story, a soldier arrives at a village looking for food. He only has a cooking pot which he puts above a fire, with water and a stone in it. Being a stranger, the villagers are suspicious of him.

One of them ask what he is doing to which he says he is cooking a delicious ‘stone soup’ but an ingredient is missing. The villager offers to give the missing ingredient to him. To the next villager who come that way, he tells the same thing and gets another ingredient. It goes on like this, until the soldier is able to actually make a delicious soup with all the ingredients he had gathered from the gullible villagers.

But in the end, he removes the stone and shares the delicious soup with the villagers.
