He was a teacher and writer. He came in contact with Helen when she was eight. He was a pillar of strength for Helen and Miss Sullivan in their times of crisis. Helen valued his advice a lot. He was eager to help the needy. Helen was all praise for him.

Dr. Edward loved nature and his fellow human beings. Helen was influenced by these qualities. Dr. Edward supported Helen’s education through Cambridge school and later Radcliffe college.
