Harris runs a full circle in characteristics; he is rather funny, often quiet(though loud, obnoxious, and rude when angry), and also prone to be a little more than lazy. There is one significant time on the trip along the Thames that William remains on the boat only to get exceedingly drunk. William is also the one to propose the toast after they get off of the boat. In the novel, he forgets the words of the song and blames the musicians for his failure. He also has a fascination for tombs and this annoys J. He also has a foul temper and his friends prefer to let him have his rant rather than talk to him when he is angry. Harris is extremely fond of alcohol and can accompany his friends for a drink at any time of the day.
