Character sketch of Prince Dimitri in 'The Death Trap' written by Saki

Prince Dimitri is the protagonist in Saki, H.H. Munro's one-act play, 'The Death Trap.' He is the ruler of the kingdom of Kedaria. His dynasty has had a long-running feud with the Karl dynasty. Dimitri is the kingdom's final surviving member. His foes plan to assassinate him. He fearlessly confronts the problem and takes advantage of the opportunity to eliminate his would-be assassins.

He recognizes that he is powerless since his faithful regimental guards will be absent. He doesn't have any weapons with which to defend himself. Only his buddy and physician, Dr. Stronetz, is allowed to see him. The prince is a pragmatic individual. Despite his youth, he is mature and accepts his situation. He informs the doctor about his situation.

He rejects the doctor's medicine, claiming that he would meet death on his own terms. This demonstrates Dimitri's bravery.

When the doctor learns that he has a terminal cardiac condition, he decides to take the medicine to end his life. He explains to the doctor that he is a king who despises being kept waiting by death. This demonstrates his majesty and arrogance. He has a sharp wit. He kills his unfaithful officers by offering them drugged wine.
