Mr. Dhanda is the narrator of the story "The Silver Lining" by Chaman Nahal. When he meets Promodini, he tries to converse with her but she walks away from him. Mr. David is the character created to show how one should understand the difficulties of speaking and hearing and how to behave with them.
He easily moves with Promodini and even starts to play with her which makes her parents and the narrator very happy and astonished. This was because that Mr David was also unable to speak and hear but had learnt to overcome his physical disabilities.
Only after her parents describe about her condition, he comes to know about her and decides to help her. He did not want Promodini to meet the awkward position every time she meets someone new in her life. He created chits with a message stating her condition and to acquaint with her accordingly.
