Ramakant Achrekar was born in the year 1932 in Malvan, Maharashtra. He is a cricket coach, who founded the Kamath Memorial Cricket Club based at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. Most famously, he is known for having coached the famous cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
Starting in 1943, Ramakant Achrekar used to play club cricket. His only first-class cricket match was the All India State Bank VS Hyderabad match in 1963. Later he became a selector, for the Mumbai cricket team.
In 1990 he was conferred the Dronacharya Award and in 2010 he was honoured with the Padma Shri.
His biography ‘Ramakant Achrekar: Master Blaster’s Master’ was penned by journalist Kunal Purandare.
