when ethyl bromide is heated with alcoholic silver propionate , ethyl propionate is formed.

C₂H₅-Br+ C₂H₅COOAg ---------→ C₂H₅-COO-C₂H₅+ AgBr

  • when ethyl bromide is reacted with silver propionate it gives ethyl propionate.
  • it gives silver bromide as a side product.
  • this reaction takes place in the presence of alcohol.
  • this is a double displacement reaction in which the Br binds with the ag and C₂H₅ binds with C₂H₅-COO.
