But the man who brought it to the classical level was non other than bismillah khan. He started playing Shehnai when he was 5 years old he followed his paternal grandfather and ali buz. He used to play shehnai at that time at temples and used to get a reward of 1.25 kg laddu that was further changed to bhart ratna like prestigious appreciates. He was the one who played shehnai after indias independence in front of mahatma gandhi and pandit jawahar lal nehru. He became the most fine shehnai player of india he also played shehnai in abroad. When he was at abroad he used to miss dumraon and banara and when he was at banaras he miss dumraon and when he was at dumraon he miss the river ganga at banaras.
