Explanation:

One night, I was alone at my parents house, they were out of town, my brother was out doing stuff, and my sister has her own house do she is doing her own thing. It was 2am and I had just shut down my computer and went to the fridge to get a snack before bed, as I'm standing at the fridge, I hear a knock at the garage door which was right next to the fridge, I wait a few seconds just to make sure I'm not crazy, I don't move a muscle, and I hear another knock, so I knock back, another knock comes from the garage, so i open it, and it's my sister who forgot the house key, so I tell her she scared me, get my yogurt and go to bed.

A week later, the same scenario, I'm getting a snack before bed, hear a knock from the garage door, unlock it and open it without hesitation, and nobody is there, just s pitch black garage, I immediately slammed the door shut, locked the door, ran up to my bedroom and hid under my covers. I never felt such a chill go up my spine than I did when I peered into that dark room, nothing looking back at me.

So if I was home alone, and I hear a knock on my bedroom door, I wouldn't respond, if there was a second knock, if say, not yell, I'd say “hello?” If I don't get a response, I'd call my brother to make sure he's not messing with me, or if he can come over to help me battle this intruder or supernatural being. If I do get a response, I'd probably know who it was from the sound of the voice. If I know without a doubt that I'm home alone, and I hear a knock, I'd probably remain silent and hide under my bed, I don't have any weapons in my room, so my only chance is to hide until they leave, it take them by surprise.
