Explanation:
Student: Good Morning Sir! It is such an honour to have met you and I must say Sir this a life time opportunity.
Lincoln: Good Morning! Thank you, it is also a pleasure to meet students and talk to them. I am glad today's youth still feel glad to talk to people like us.
Student: Sir, you are such an inspiration to all of us. How can I not feel excited and blessed to get an opportunity to talk to you. You have been so hardworking and successful all your life
Lincoln: Not Really! I have never been always successful. I too had a string of failures...in fact very bad failures in life
Student: Really Sir, but what would you have ever failed in?
Lincoln: Born into poverty, I was faced with defeat throughout my life. In 1816 my family was forced out of our home. I had to work to support them.
Student: That's sad. The what did you do Sir?
Lincoln: I decided to start business. So I borrowed some money from a friend to begin a business, however, by the end of the year I was bankrupt. I spent the next 17 years of my life paying off this debt.
Student: Then did you try for a job?
Lincoln: Yes I did apply for the job of land officer in my home state, but was rejected
Student: How did you then become the President of the US?
Lincoln: It was not easy, I faced several defeats in politics too before becoming the President.
Student: Defeats? What were they?
Lincoln: Before becoming the President, I contested for Speaker of the state legislature but I lost; sought to become elector but I was defeated; I ran for the Congress then again I lost; contested for the Senate of the US yet again I lost; and I tried the Vice-Presidential nomination at my party’s national convention but I got less than 100 votes!
Student: Then?
Lincoln: Finally in 1860 I was elected president of the United States
Student: How did you achieve all these? I am sure I would have given up long time back..quit trying perhaps.
Lincoln: The key word is "persistence"! I didn’t quit, kept trying till I succeeded. I could have quit many times – but I didn’t. If you too keep trying and never quit, you can be assured you will taste victory someday.
Student: Wow! That was really motivating. I will definitely follow your wise saying Sir. Thank you so much Sir for your time.
Lincoln: Thank you!
