It's a common belief that mass media plays an important role in democracy.But it's not always true. Many a times in a democracy there are certain things which are against the ethics of the concept of democracy. Sometimes we find dictatorship in the guise of democracy. In such situation media which is supposed to have a positive role in forming opinion of common people, actually becomes a mouthpiece of dictatorship in the guise of democracy. Though people have their own opinion regarding certain issues in society, their opinion doesn’t reach to the public. Mass media becomes a weapon in the hands of democracy (in the guise of dictatorship) and tries to control the opinion of people.
Secondly, anybody comes and posts anything on social media and spreads rumors. The things that are posted on media are not always beneficial to society.
So mass media is not always an effective tool in democracy. There has to be a check on its sources.

Good morning every one; I am here to express my views on ‘Mass media is an effective tool in democracy’; and I am going to give a counter view.
Mass Media plays a pivotal role in the functioning of democracy. It keeps people informed and aware of the happenings in the country. However, Media may become a puppet in the hands of powerful people also and do more harm than good.
It can encourage faulty and biased public opinion by hiding the truth. Unfortunately, the prime motive of media has become earning huge profits. This has influenced media’s responsibility also. One of its responsibilities is to show what is right and not showing what is wrong. Unfortunately, media has failed in its responsibly to withhold showing the wrong content also.
In NEWS media also, at times compromises are made in telecasting the right news to make wrong public opinions. It can be influenced to promote anything. I strongly media is an effective tool in democracy if the people controlling the media are conscientious and upright.
