Answer:

A critical appreciation of the essay 'the man in black

Explanation:

Though I have numerous friends, I only want to be intimate with a select few. I've indicated before that the Man in Black is someone whose friendship I'd like to have because he has my respect. True, his demeanour is tinged with bizarre inconsistencies, and he can rightfully be described as a humorist in a land of humorists. Though he is extravagantly generous, he appears to be a parsimony and prudence prodigy; though his talk is full of the most heinous and selfish maxims, his heart is enlarged with the most boundless love.I've seen him declare himself a man-hater while his cheeks were shining with sympathy, and I've heard him employ the vocabulary of the most unbridled ill-nature while his gaze were softened into pity. Some portray humanity and tenderness, while others boast of natural generosity; but he is the only man I've ever met who felt ashamed of his innate goodness. He goes to the same lengths to conceal his emotions as any hypocrite would to cover his indifference; nonetheless, the mask falls off at every vulnerable moment, revealing him to even the most casual observer. He looked shocked that any of his compatriots could be so foolishly weak as to relieve occasional objects of charity, when the laws had made such great provision for their upkeep, during one of our recent excursions into the country. "The poor are supplied with food, clothing, fire, and a bed to rest on in every parish-house," he continues; "they want no more, I desire no more; yet they appear dissatisfied." I am amazed at our magistrates' inaction in not apprehending such vagrants, who are a burden to the productive;; I'm astonished that people are found to alleviate them, given that they must be aware that it encourages idleness, extravagance, and imposture in some way. If I were to advise any guy with whom I had the least regard, I would warn him to avoid being imposed upon by their false pretences; let me guarantee you, sir, they are all imposters who need a prison rather than comfort."
