Dear Diary,
You remember how Diwali celebrations have always been about eating sweets, lighting diyas and bursting crackers. Well, this year, I celebrated Diwali a bit differently. I went to a home for children with special needs.
It was a long journey to their hostel. After two hours of traveling in the car, we finally reached there. We were greeted warmly by the staff. While they were explaining to us the problems the children face, I went through their photo albums. There were so many stories hidden in those pictures; stories of strength, will power, grit and determination.
We met an enthusiastic little girl named Saileela. She repeated after her teacher as her teacher read the names of few fruits, an apple for example. Her enthusiasm for learning defined the quote ”Where there is a will there is a way. “We then went to their dining hall and met many more children. We distributed snacks, and stationery, and handed over some utensils to the staff.
Their faces bloomed with happiness. It was the end of the scheduled visit, we had to head back home, as we had school the next morning. This was a very nice experience, and I hope we do it every Diwali.
Good night,
Vajra
