Answer:

Spare the rod and spoil the child (For the motion)

Should parents be strict all the time or should they let their children freely do what they wish to? This depends on the parents thinking and their decision as to how they want to bring up their child. Therefore, I Sapna speak in favour of the motion ‘Spare the rod and spoil the child’.

It is true that if a parent decides to treat their children with extreme softness even when they are doing wrong then it won’t take much time to spoil him/her. Being a strict parent is good for the children in the long run as it helps in inculcating a sense of discipline in them. This discipline might be out of fear but when the child grows and looks back at time, he/she will realise how helpful that discipline was for them. In a similar way, even they will take to nurturing their child with the same discipline. In this way, generation after generation will have the same kind of etiquettes and manners. It is not only the responsibility of schools to inculcate good habits in a child but equally important for the parents to be attentive.

This system is no wrong because if it was such then why is strictness allowed in schools? Only new rules include that the child should not be beaten in any form because teachers were taking advantage of it to let out personal grudges. But parents have the rationality to decide what is best for their child and will always take a good decision even if it is severe for the child at that point.

Spare the rod and spoil the child (Against the motion)

Should parents be strict all the time or should they let their children freely do what they wish to? This depends on the parents thinking and their decision as to how they want to bring up their child. Therefore, I Sapna speak against motion ‘Spare the rod and spoil the child’.

Sometimes the parent takes strict action in anger without exactly knowing under what circumstances the child did whatever he/she did. It may be that the child is seriously not able to do something that the parents expect them to. In the childhood phase, it is necessary for him/her to play and enjoy their life. In the same, the child might commit a mistake unintentionally but if his/her parents beat him or take strict actions the child might correct the wrong out of fear but at the same time it will constantly follow him that his parents do not love him. This will make him do things against his own parents because he/she doesn’t know that his parent intentions were correct.

It is better that parents set boundaries for their children so that they know what is good for them and what might cause punishment. What is best for the children is the love and affection of their parents. If told politely, they would easily accept their mistake and not repeat it again.
