Recently I happened to be a part of cultural event organized by Rose Valley Foundation in New Delhi in which many celebrities had been invited to grace the occasion. A huge crowd gathered to see their favourite superstar. It was   6 o clock in the evening, already an hour late than the scheduled time of the program. Still the audience waited with unlimited enthusiasm. At nearly 6:45 the most awaited heartthrob of the city Mr. Rajveer Khanna got up the stage leaning on two guards. Not only I , but the whole auditorium broke down thinking that their favourite hero might have been sick. Still they waited patiently to hear his voice. Rajveer took over the the microphone and all of a sudden began to shout in an offensive language about the mismanagement of the organizers. People were awestruck hearing him use such words. I heard someone behind me saying, “He is a spoiled brat, a drunkard”. I did not wait there much longer to see the whole function. The word spoiled brat rang in my ears for quite sometime and made me think. Can we really call them our role models?

Good morning honourable members of jury, respected teachers worthy opponents and my dear friends. Today I [name] stand before you to speak in favour of the motion “ Celebrities are not good role models for students”.

Admiring your favorite actors is always good but making them as your role model might not be a practical idea because  they're also regular human beings who make mistakes and have weaknesses just like we do. These celebrities are just people who get paid to act, sing and dance and perform in front of a lot of people who don't know them. I myself had always been very excited over celebrities and their lifestyles when I was little younger. However  lately my perspectives are gradually changing.

My first point, Celebrities are normal human beings. They are common people just like us.  Their profession demand of them to be in  public recognition and they want to be in the limelight so that their demand is there in the industry. Once they are successful and are in limelight they do anything to be in public eye. Moreover, they get involvedinvarious controversies to be in media. These celebrities even harm themselves and become violent towards the public.

My next point is Celebrities are used by big farms to promote products and causes. Sometimes, while promoting such things celebrities ignore the public  interest. They become part of trends which could be harmful to people. Such as cosmetic surgeries, racists’ advertisements, fake beauty standards etc. Celebrities are ready to do anything for money and they forget that it would be harmful to people who follow them blindly.

Another important fact is these celebrities showcase mostly lies in the media. These people promote false claims. Let me give you few examples: in fashion magazines, actresses would advice you about all the worldly products that they seem to be using. Indeed, they will promote what they endorse. You may often find actresses answering in interviews like “with gods grace I am lucky that my

metabolism rate, my hair or skin are all good and so I don’t  need to work out so much” or “I never believe in dieting and I eat everything”. But if its so true then why we see cases of such actresses like Kareena,  Priyanka and so on getting fainted on sets .The truth is that behind their lean figures and looks , they invest a lot in their diet control, usage of natural or herbal remedies and  products of all luxurious brand for beauty and ruthless hours of workouts. Now friends, aren’t these points valid enough to prove that celebrities cannot be our role models. But just hold on. I have few more to bring forth to you.

Friends ,  how can we forget about  the impact that a celebrity's physical image has on fans either. When they see the airbrushed photos so common

nowadays, fans absorb the message that this is how  a man or an woman should look. But most celebrities look nothing like their own photos without makeup and airbrushing. Take for an example, if all youngsters aspire to have  a 6 pack ab like Sharukh as in Om SHANTI OM or a skinny figure like Katrina, then the health sectors of our country are surely going to flourish.

This reminds me of a famous quote by Steve Martin who said “A celebrity is any well-known TV or movie star who looks like he spends more than two hours working on his hair.”

Therefore friends,  we really shouldn't aspire to look like celebrities, when they don't really look like themselves either!

Ultimately, celebrities are people just like the rest of us; they just happen to get a lot more attention for the job they do.  So we should be selective about whom we admire and why.

Therefore I hope I am able to substantiate my views in favour of the motion. I thank you all for lending me your ears patiently.

hope it helps

have a nice day
