While Maharashtra recorded 329 deaths, the toll surged sharply in Karnataka, where 148 fatalities were reported. Other states with a high death toll on Tuesday were Tamil Nadu (107), Andhra Pradesh (92), UP (72), Bengal (58) and Punjab (49).While the number of fresh cases in Maharashtra dipped from the previous day's figure of over 11,000 to 10,425, infections surged in Andhra Pradesh (9,927 new cases), Karnataka (8,161, back to over 8,000 after five days) and UP (5,124). In Tamil Nadu, fresh cases remained steady at 5,951. The highest single-day spike in infections was seen in Telangana (2,579), Kerala (2,375), Rajasthan (1,370), MP (1,374), Chhattisgarh (1,467) and Puducherry (571).
Maharashtra crossed the 7-lakh mark on Tuesday with its steady addition of 10,000-plus new Covid-19 cases almost every day. The grim milestone, however, was reached on a day Mumbai reported its lowest daily addition in 105 days. Civic authorities though attributed the hefty dip to a technical glitch in downloading case details from the ICMR website. Mumbai reported 587 new Covid19 cases, the lowest since May 12.
Andhra Pradesh reported 9,927 Covid-19 cases and 92 deaths on Tuesday, taking the cumulative caseload to 3,71,639. The toll increased to 3,460 and 9,419 patients were declared cured on Tuesday.Telangana on Tuesday recorded 2,579 new cases of Covid-19. So far, the total number of cases in the state stand at 1 lakh.
