The 12th President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, was born on October 15, 1931 at Dhanushkothi in the temple town Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. He was born in the poor family of a boatmaker. But he was an exceptionally brilliant child. He passed the B.Sc. examination from Saint Joseph College, Thiruchirapalli. The Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) had newly been established in those days. He joined it and thus his whole course of life was changed. He was not interested in going abroad.
