If I was in my teens or twenties, my answer would be that favorite things about nature were summer rainstorms and autumn colors and crisp clean air were the best part of fall, and winter snow was a bear. That's about the most attention I'd paid to "nature."

As I've grown older, partly of because of age and the changing perspective of life and change of circumstances, nature has ranged from a culprit to hide from, and a healer to embrace. The intense sun has become more like a critical parent where one has to stay in the shadow to avoid. While the cool morning and evening breeze before and after the sun rises has felt as the embrace of a gentle kind friend. And to look into the sky, the wonder as it ranges in color from moment to moment, from clear and crystal, to overflowing with billowing form, to streaks of color displays, to the simple grey of coming rain. To the night sky and the few stars to be seen I go to stand under every night as wishing a friend good night. And thanks.

Appreciation, most certainly. Nature has become a friend though at times fierce as an enemy. To the immediate surround of nature, what encompasses the body when first joining, the appreciation most powerful and grateful for every day that I step into it and walk through in admiration and thanks.
