We all have our own safe space. A place we go in our mind to escape reality. I close my eyes and my mind wanders back to the only place I've ever felt whole. I open my eyes and I see the vast ocean and I feel my feet sinking in the cool sand. The sand is so beautiful. I've never felt sand like this before. It felt like silk between my toes.The smell of salt water hits my nose, it's pungent and somewhat sweet. I sit in the damp sand and I ease my feet in the water. Looking up at the horizon I felt so distant from all my worries. The sun is setting and the colors are so vibrant it reminds me of a warm aurora borealis. It was as if God himself hand painted the sky. It was too surreal. I felt tears trickle down my cheek. I quickly brush it away and watch as the bright oranges fade to purple then to a deep blue. The sky is lit up with thousands of stars. I lay on my back in complete disbelief. I felt as if I could reach up and touch the stars. I humor myself by extending my arm and tracing them. I never want to leave Anna Maria island. I let my hand drift down to my side. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. I whisper to myself," hold on, we'll be back again."
