‘My Trip to the Principal’s Office’
If I was ever selected to go to Space the anguish and excitement would have been the same when my Father asked me to hand a letter to the Principal requesting him to grant me permission to accompany my Father to Paris for his Art exhibition.
Like Stephen Dedalus in Joyce's autobiographical novel, 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man' I went with a pounding heart. The trip was no easy one. I had to pass through the big corridors and hall before reaching my destination through the Gothic building.
I felt I would be confronting the Canterville ghost or his likes on the way. Finally I reached the office and knocked with shaking knuckles. As the Principal's baritone voice echoed my legs started buckling. I could hear my heart beat and was afraid that the Principal could also here my lub dub.
The Principal's Office was no less than an expedition to the cosmos. Cups, shields, mementos adorned every shelf and wall. The voluminous books gave the room a library like air. There was so much to see.
I handed the letter and waited nervously for his response. When finally he nodded his head and smiled at me I felt I really was in Space. In cloud nine I floated against gravity and emerged from his office triumphant in my trip.
