Answer:
“Hey!”
I wake up and instantly turn off my alarm. My alarm was set to make it seem like someone was calling me and it works every time. Looking at the clock, I rush out of bed and take a shower. I’m really late and I only have a few minutes to eat breakfast. On my way to work, I see a homeless guy sitting on the side of the street asking people for money. I take out a dollar from my pocket and give it to him. He thanks me and I race away to work. The next day, I go to work a little bit earlier so I have time to eat breakfast. On my way to work again, I see the same homeless guy on the streets asking for money again. I take out another few dollars and hand it to him.
“Thank you!”
“Your welcome, but I have to get to work.”
“Wait, I have to tell you something!”
Without hearing what he has to say, I hurry to work so I’m not as late as yesterday. Over the next few months, I give money to the homeless guy everyday but never really get a chance to talk to him. One day, I go super early to my work so I get a chance to talk to him. I turn around the corner of a street and say “Hey…” I stop in my tracks. The homeless guy isn’t there. I start imagining different possibilites to what could have happened to him as I walk to work. Did he move to a different street, find a home maybe? The following day, I walk to work and I see a familiar man getting off the bus and heading towards me. I don’t know what to do, so I start walking faster. However, the more I glance at his face, the more I seem to recognize him. Right before I reach my work, I slow down letting the man catch up to me. He walks up to me and says, “Hi I’m Jorge.”
“Do I know you?”
“Yes, I am the man that you have been donating money to on the street.”
Thats where I’ve seen him. He’s the homeless man that I was worried about. But where did he get clothes from and look so much like a gentleman?
“Oh now I recognize you.”
“I just wanted to thank you for all that you’ve done for me.” Tears start streaming down Jorge’s eyes. He says, “Because of you, I have been able to save enough money to visit my family and finally get a job.” He hugs me and I feel like it was a genuine hug from the bottom of his heart. I hug him back and say goodbye. As I sit down at work, I realize how such a small deed can benefit someone in a big way.
