Dr. Amedkar (1891-1956), one of India's gretest leaders, belonged to a poor low-caste family, called the Mahar. Thus, he was discriminated against, humiliated and ill treated.
Dr.Amedkar fought for the upliftment of Dalits throughout his life. He fought againstv untochablity and worked towards a society in which all people were equal. He encouraged the Dalits to send their children to school and colleges, qnd to take on different government jobs.
Dr.Amedkar was the first person from his caste to complete college education, go to England and become a lawyer. He was made the Chairman to the dafting Committee which was given the responsiblity of drafting a Constitution for India. He is considered the father of the Indian Constitution.
