Stages of alcoholism

There are mainly four stages of alcoholism which are elucidated below:

1. Pre-alcoholic- social drinking which doesn't cause any problem. Tolerance for alcohol starts developing at this stage. It is also seen as a means of stress reduction.

2. Early alcoholic- gradually becoming obsessed with alcohol. One develops tolerance and incidences of drinking increases.

3. Middle alcoholic- hangovers effect work and personal life. Drinking often at inappropriate times and gradually developing symptoms such as weight gain, facial redness, bloating, etc.

4. Late alcoholic- effects of long term alcohol intake are visible along with health problems. Stopping at this stage becomes next to impossible as hallucinations and tremors are experienced.
