the theme of this poem is that poet's writtings are immortal but those forcefully raised statues of emperors and leaders are temporary and gets damaged over times. The poet tries to criticise the mind of the mighty people who tries to make themselves remembered with the help of upraised statues but not by doing good works. He says that once a good poem or good thing is done it is remenmbered in the mind of the people and those people are always in our memory. At last poet says my sonnets will live on this earth as long as a single person still read these sonnets in my memory.
