Aarav: Hi Aarav, I hope you are fine
Vivaan: I'm fine friend, what about you?
Aarav: I am doing very good too
Vivaan: Hope Delhi’s pollution is not affecting you in any way?
Aarav: it's quite terrible, I can't cope with the pollution without using a pollution mask. The situation is going out of control even now that we are in the winter months.
Vivaan: You protect yourself with air purifiers? is it very effective?
Aarav: Yea, air purifiers are quite good but not everyone can afford it. would you like to use it as well?
Vivaan: yea, but I will like to know the cost of having one.
Aarav: the type that I bought cost INR 2,000/- and it is very effective. Although there are very cheap ones N99 is very effective. You can as well get cheap ones for as low as 15-20 rupees
Vivaan: I think I will go for the N99. or what do you think?
Aarav: it depends on your purse but I will suggest you go for N99 because of its effectiveness. You can use it for a few hundred hours but the cheap ones don't last.
Vivaan: alright I will go for N99. Don't you think the government should enact some policies to check the excess of the companies involves discharging harmful chemicals into the atmosphere?
Aarav: Honestly the would be the best. the government should educate the public on why they have to reduce stove use and fireplace. I think the activities of the companies should also be checked.
Vivaan: your suggestions are very achievable only if the government has the political will to get it done and the people key into it.
Aarav: I think the current political dispensation promised to do something about this menace.
(Two friends discussed seriously the changes in the environment due to pollution and the possible measures that can be taken by common citizens to stop the further deterioration of the environment. Following is their conversation :)
Amit: Hey, have you noticed the summer heat has become almost unbearable ?
Krishna: Yes, it is true. My parents were discussing the same phenomenon last night!
Amit: Do you know the reason behind this climatic and seasonal change?
Krishna: Undoubtedly, these changes are there because of the environmental degradation due to colossal deforestation and burning of fossil fuels! Global warming is tangible now! Earlier we just talked about it; now we have started seeing its effects!
Amit: If this pollution is not controlled, the future is going to be very grim. Life conditions will become unbearable! What can be done to save our environment?
Krishna: I wholeheartedly agree with you. The only solution to this very critical problem is people’s mass participation in saving the environment. Mass forestation drive, and stopping the use of fossil fuels altogether can solve this problem.
Amit: Is it possible? People are equally careless to the environment! They violate and defy environmental laws themselves. How can it be possible in such situation?
Krishna: Certainly it is. There are other alternative fuels available. The government must act strictly. There should be a ban on fossil fuels. The government must create forest belt near every city or town. Toxic emissions of industries must be strictly regularized. This problem is controllable. The common people must participate in the conservation of environment. Unless they participate in the conservation programme, it is impossible to save the degradation!
Amit: But will people cooperate with the government?
Krishna: Sure they will, who does not want to live? Besides, we must leave a better planet for the coming generations. All that is needed is the proper sensitization of people.
