                               Effects of Demonetization

Friend A: What is your take on the effects of demonetization?

Friend B: Well, I am pro-demonetization. Whatever is for the welfare and betterment of my country I sand by it; and I feel demonetization has brought about positive changes in our country.

Friend A: I also second you. but there are many people who oppose it.

Friend B: I know. They are the people who think more of their own interests rather that the national interests.

Friend A: The current government tried to control corruption. It took some stringent measures such as demonetization of 500 and 1000 rupee notes, digitization of economic activities, connecting the bank accounts to PAN numbers and Income Tax department, etc.

Friend B: I know. And this corruption is the biggest obstacle in the path of our national prosperity.

Friend A: The black money in our country has a very serious issue. Most of the black money is used in doing anti-nation activities such as criminals, terrorism, drug-smuggling, gambling, real-estate business, and film industry, etc.

Friend B: Really? I did not know!

Friend A: Do you know India was on top of the list of countries that have kept their black money in Swiss Banks. India with $1,456 billion or $1.4 trillion has more money in Swiss banks than the rest of the world combined? So you can imagine the extent of black money problem in our country!

Friend B: Goodness gracious!

Friend A: Similarly, within the nation the amount of hidden black money in the form of 500 and 1000 rupees notes was equally staggering.

Friend B: This is very shocking!

Friend A: The Government tried to bring the black money into our economy to flourish it fast. Do you know why the PM of India banned the high denomination notes?

Friend B: To end corruption and black money, I figure?

Friend A: PM Modi’s intention behind the move was purely to break the back of those people who had the black money or were involved in black money activities. Secondly, some anti-national agencies were using this black money and fake money to destabilize India. Pakistan and China are directly involved in these activities. PM Modi’s move aimed at disrupting their anti-India activities by banning these notes, as it had been confirmed, these anti-India agencies were using fake 500 and 1000 rupees notes by printing them.

Friend B: This was a great a move. I completely support it.

Friend A: But those who had black money don’t think so. There was furor of protests, complaints, and resistance to the move from those who had been hit hard, especially the corrupt politicians, businessmen, etc.

Friend B: I think the people of India stood by the PM and show their solidarity.

Friend A: As a result of demonetization, the people had to face difficulties; there was initial shortage of new currency notes; people had to stand in queues.; economy slowed a little bit.

Friend B: But now the economy has improved. The World Bank and Moody’s have praised the Indian Government; India’s ranking in World Bank and Moody’s have improved. The anti-national activities have been hit hard too.

Friend A: Demonetization was really a great reform for the Indian economy.
