A Dialogue between Me and My neighbour about Snakes

Myself: Hello Rakesh, Good Morning.

Rakesh: What good morning, I almost had my last morning!

Myself: Why what happened?

Rakesh: There was a big cobra in my verandah. As soon as I opened the front door it almost sprang on me.

Myself: How do you know it was a cobra? It might be a harmless rat snake. All snakes aren’t venomous.

Rakesh: What are you saying?

Myself: Yes my dear, only four species of snakes are poisonous the rest are harmless as a lamb. It’s because of their shape and size that we get scared.

Rakesh: This was poisonous I am sure. It was black and very long.

Myself: I think it must have been a Dhaman snake. These snakes keep coming to human households in search of rats. In fact cobras feed on these snakes. Did the snake have a hood?

Rakesh: No, it just slithered at my sight.

Myself: See. If it was a cobra it would stand with a wide hood and strike at you. Don’t be afraid of snakes. They are harmless creatures and excellent pest controllers.

Rakesh: Well you romanticize with snakes I am terrified by their sights. Bye.

Myself: Don’t fear. Bye.
