Dear Diary
Today was an exciting day in my life. However, it also taught me something that I will not forget for a lifetime. Do you remember my wish of celebrating my birthday in a five star hotel like my friend Nisha did? I had told this to my best friend Asha and she informed my parents without letting me know. My parents got my friends’ help and arranged for the birthday cake cutting and other party celebrations in the open garden restaurant of the five star hotel The Blue Moon! You can imagine my surprise when Asha took me there in the evening giving my parents a silly excuse. The whole place was beautifully decorated and there were some lovely melodies playing in the background. There was also an event manager who took care of all the arrangements and saw that the party went off smoothly. He also arranged for a lot of games. I also got a gift from the manager of the hotel and a birthday cake on behalf of the hotel apart from what my parents had ordered.
But, in the course of the celebration, I realized that there were many people who did not have even one slice of bread in a day. All those who attended the party were those who could afford three meals in a day. This thought put me off and ashamed at having wished for such an exorbitant birthday celebration. Although I was grateful to my parents for fulfilling my wish and enjoyed my day, I decided that I would not indulge in such a lavish celebration again.
