Elders have rightly said, “Pride hath a fall!” What a living example of ‘SHOW OFF’ Private Quelch has turned out to be! This boastful attitude of his has brought a halt to his entire career! He shall be a cook until he learns decency and decorum! Though initially, I thought he was very promising. But no, he wanted to become the focus of attention of every co-trainee and the officer!

I was told by other trainers he was doing excellent in drill, parade, training, etc. The instructors all held him in great esteem until that fateful day. I will never ever forget that drowsy summer afternoon when everything changed for him for the worse. I did not know he would turn out to be so impudent! How he dared to tell me how to teach! He was wrong. He crossed the limits of decency. I gave him one chance. But he did not stop! He should not have made the second comment about starting the lecture with characteristics of the grenade. In the long run, knowledge does not matter. Etiquette, ethics, decency, and respect for seniors matters a lot. Let him work in the kitchen for a few months! If he mends his ways and learns decency, respect for his fellow trainees, and seniors, I will cancel his duty from the cookhouse.
