It was a dark winter night and Mary was alone, walking back home after a visit to her sick friend's place. She had not anticipated it to be this dark or she would have left sooner. And considering her sick friend's condition, it was inappropriate to ask someone to drop her till her home.
And now that she's on the roads by herself, she realized how conscious of her surroundings she is. She immediately began to quicken her pace, so that she will get home soon. But the condition of the roads, the deserted scene and the unavailability of street lights further stressed her out. Then, she began to hear some sounds coming from a far, which seemed to draw nearer to her. But when she turned back to see if anyone's coming, she couldn't see anything. She heard the sound of someone's footsteps growing louder and louder, which scared her. So, she stopped on her tracks, moved to the nearest space and hid behind the small roadside stall. She saw someone come eventually, stopped for a moment, seemingly looking for her, turning round as if searching for someone. Then the figure left.
Now, Mary was deeply afraid that there was someone on the road who she did not know. The dark did nothing to lessen her fear, and she began running as fast as she could. Once home, she was about to open her door and get inside and lock the door when someone came from behind and touched her slightly. She shouted with such fright that even the person behind also appeared shocked. As it turns out, it was one of the friends in the sick person's home who had been looking for her to drop her home.He has been following her and trying to find her, but as she was walking fast and then hid when he was looking for her.
After all things had been said and told, they had a hearty laugh over the matter.
