Crying Doll
I still remember that foggy night I was returning home after a long day at office. I was walking on the footpath; there were very few people outside. Most of them enjoying the warmth inside snug homes. I also wanted to reach home as fast as I could.
As I was passing by an arbor, I heard a strange sound that captured all my attention. It was a melodious sound with a melancholy, heart-touching tone. Some very young girl appeared to be singing a very sad song. It appeared as if her heart had been deeply wounded!
I could not resist the appeal in the song and went to the direction from where the sound was emanating. The path on either side was lined with trees. There was perfect silence except that sad sound. Finally I reached the foot of a tree. On the top was a tree house.
I climbed the delicate stairs up to the top and knocked on the door. Immediately the singing stopped. After a while the door opened. And to my surprise, there stood on the threshold one of the most beautiful dolls in the world with tears streaming down her cheeks from two beautifully blue eyes.
When i look back at one of the darkest incidents of my life, the first thing which comes to my mind is that frightful, dark, foggy night on the main highway when my car broke down.
I was looking to hitch a ride with someone but i knew my chances were slim, considering that it was past midnight. My cell phone wasn't getting any reception and that's when i heard a voice. Someone was singing from the far side near the forest. I tried to follow the music because whoever was singing had a beautiful voice and it was mesmerizing. There was a sort of pain and sorrow in the voice of the singer. Maybe the singer had gone through some ordeal. I felt as though i had lost all power and sense as i made my way towards the dark forest, past all the mist that was gathering beside my feet.
As i neared the source of the music, i saw a path which on either side was lined with trees. That's when i saw a huge tree with a swing attached to it and a girl sitting on it with her back turned.
Beside the girl there was a big ragged doll on the ground beside her. As i walked towards the doll, i felt a bit cold and shaken. What astonished me the most was when i picked up the doll to hand to the girl, but this ragged doll was wearing a shirt that had my name, "Henry" written on it. When i saw blood on that name, i ran as fast as i could, never to return back.
